Monitoring Nitrogen Purity by Gas Chromatography

Abstract

A method had to be devised to check the purity of nitrogen to determine compliance with military specification BB-N-411C. A gas chromatographic technique using Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) was developed for routine monitoring of nitrogen. An easy to follow step-by-step instruction is provided to analyze contaminants (parts per million) and to determine purity of nitrogen (percent by volume).
