Supplementary Environmental Baseline Studies and Evaluation of the St. Mary's River 1980. Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway Navigation Season Extension Program

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to expand the existing biological, physical and chemical data for the Middle Neebish Channel in the St. Marys River to help determine environmental effects of suspension and re-distribution of sediments resulting from proposed winter navigation-related activities (i.e., dredging, icebreaking, ship movements). Field data gathered in 1980 supplements data taken in 1979. It considered the biological importance of shallow, littoral areas and the understanding of natural annual variations in the system. It also reviewed fish distribution during winter. Keywords: Benthic macroinvertebrates; Macrophytes and associated biota; Ichthyoplankton; Juvenile and adult fish; Physical and chemical aspects of water.
