Direct User Access Terminal (DUAT) Service Operational Concept

Abstract

This concept of operations is one of a set that in total will describe the operation of the National Airspace System (NAS) when the projected upgrades are completed. The Direct User Access Terminal (DUAT) is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) program that will enable pilots to obtain self- briefings and submit flight plans, much as they receive these services from Flight Service Stations (FSSs) and Automated FSSs (AFSSs) today; however, DUAT will be provided by the private sector. This document describes DUAT Service capabilities and interactions between the user, the DUAT Service, and NAS subsystems. It is intended to provide a common perspective for personnel engaged in DUAT-related activities. Keywords: General aviation; Preflight briefings; Self-briefings; Route development; Flight plan filing; FAA services; Vendor services.
