Risk Management Concepts and Guidance

Abstract

This guide updates and expands the Defense Systems Management College's 1983 Risk Assessment Techniques Guide. This version was developed in response to the 1986 Government Accounting Office (GAO) report on DOD efforts relative to real assessments. In addition to technical risk, this guide addresses cost risk, schedule risk, programmatic risk, and supportability risk. There are no textbook answers to risk management. Each situation is different and requires a slightly different approach. This guide is designed to be used as an aid in classroom instruction and as a reference book for practical application.
