Application of Artificial Intelligence Techniques to Exterior Ballistics

Abstract

This report documents the application of Artificial Intelligence to the problem of predicting the aerodynamic stability boundaries of spin stabilized projectiles. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the analysis of the free flight characteristics (static and dynamic stability) of projectiles and provide a method of recommending corrections (alterations) to the geometry and physical properties to improve flight performance (as required) are the end item goals of this project. To accomplish these goals the analyst must be provided with a set of tools/data will acceptable reliability including: Aerodynamic Coefficients (Predictions or Test Data); Stability Analysis Methodology; Trajectory Simulation; Physical Modeling; AI Expert System. Keywords: Exterior ballistics; Trajectories; Aeroballistics.
