Stick Propellant Handling.

Abstract

This report describes the results of design, fabrication, and test of stick propellant handling for the purpose of automating the M203A1 stick propellant assembly process. Two different systems for handling stick propellant were investigated: a bulk feed system for a rapid high volume disbursement of stick propellant and a make-up feed system for the disbursement of small exact quantities of stick propellant. The objective of the two systems was to obtain a bundle of stick propellant of the required weight. This was to be accomplished by rapidly filling a scale with less than the required amount of stick propellant using the bulk feed system. The make-up feeder would then be used to obtain the final correct weight.
