Application of Functional Analysis in Fluid-Mechanics

Abstract

This work was concerned with the application of functional analysis to fluid mechanics. The specific subject dealt with is that of closed splines which were introduced by the principal investigator as the appropriate splines to solve interpolation problems connected with the flow fields around airfoils. Partial contents: A new characterization of closed splines -- Relevant results from abstract-space theory, Characterization of splines, Correspondence between classical and closed splines, and Examples of application of the new formulation; Normal splines; Hermite splines; and Closed smoothing splines -- Normal closed smoothing splines, Smoothing spline theory in abstract space (Arbitrary Hilbert spaces and Finite space Z); and Normal closed smoothing splines (Existence, uniqueness and characterization). Italy.
