Uninitiates Introduction to Engineering

Abstract

The UNITE (Uninitiates Introduction to Engineering) program was conducted on four different college campuses during the summers of 1978, 1979, and 1980. To date five hundred minority students (371 male, 229 female) participated in a two-week introduction to the field of engineering and learned of opportunities for minorities with engineering backgrounds in the Air Force. The response rates to a survey initiated approximately six months following the program were low; this may be attributed to the fact that the participants most likely are targets bombarded with numerous questionnaires, invitations, and announcements. 10% of the 1978 and '79 participants are considering AFORTC.
