Coherent Propagation and Sum Frequency Generation into the Vacuum Ultra Violet

Abstract

The goal of this program is to demonstrate coherent sum frequency generation into the U.V., with energy conversion efficiencies of the order of several per cent. A facility was developed needed to perform these measurements. The source consists in a synchronously pumped dye laser oscillator tunable to the various two-photon transitions of lithium followed by a 2 3 stage Nd;Yag ((frequency doubled)) pumped dye laser amplifier.
