Recognition of Environmental Sounds
Abstract
The studies focused on two areas: 1) acoustic and perceptual-cognitive factors related to sound identification; and 2) the effects of context on identification of specific sounds. Results indicated that identification time and accuracy are related to causal uncertainty and to a construct called identifiability. Context was found to produce negative bias but not positive bias. Keywords: Audition; Hearing; Classification; Complex sound choice; Reaction time; Identification. (jhd)
