Polarization Matrices of Quartz
Abstract
In analytical treatments of piezoelectric-acoustic transducers, signal processors, and resonators, the electromechanical transduction mechanism is most often expressed in terms of the elements of the piezoelectric (e) or (d) matrices. Molecular interpretations of piezoelectricity, and especially electrooptical applications, usually involve polarization as the preferred variable, and consequently the alternative (a) and (b) matrices are of interest. The elements of these latter sets are calculated for quartz from measured elastopiezodielectric constants taken from the literature. (RRH)
