Commander's Handbook on Military and Civil Law

Abstract

The Commander's Handbook is divided into five separate sections as follows: Evidence, Procedure, Criminal Law, Civil Law, and glossary of Words and Phrases. This publication is designed to explain the rather complex legal principles and procedures inherent in the military justice and civil law system. Its aim is to assist commanders in discharging their responsibilities under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. In some cases, the explanations of law have been somewhat over-simplified for the purpose of clarity and represent only general rules. There may be some uncommon situations where the general rule does not properly resolve the problem. Accordingly, this publication should not be utilized without supplementary legal research. (rrh)
