Stall/Spin/Flight Simulation

Abstract

This report summarizes the work performed for stall/spin resistant design aids for aircraft. Two major areas were investigated. First, the solution of the non-linear equations of motion with on-line computation of the aerodynamic moments and visual display of the pilot's view and views of the aircraft. This enables evaluation of the simulator and the quality of the solution by pilots and engineers. Second, a method for predicting the aerodynamics of wings near and beyond stall was developed. It serves the purpose of selecting planforms for spin resistant aircraft. This work demonstrates the viability and promise of these approaches against spin. (RRH)
