Abrams Air Intake Plenums/Precleaner Assemblies

Abstract

This report documents a program to develop and fabricate a composite material air intake plenum and precleaner assembly for the M1A1 tank. The air intake plenum incorporates organic composite materials to reduce weight and production costs, when compared to the aluminum counterpart. Aluminum design problems were eliminated and airflow enhanced by using composite materials.
