Modal Analysis of Nonprismatic Beams - Uniform Segment Method

Abstract

A method to determine the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes of nonprismatic beams that are end-mounted on various supports is described. The term Uniform Segment Method (USM) is used to distinguish this method from finite element (FEM) techniques. The analytical details are presented along with a description of the implementing computer routines. The results are compared with finite element models. Directions for continued research using this modelling technique are also outlined. (AW)
