The Need for a Tactical Aerial Refueling Platform

Abstract

Remarks on historical development of and technological influences on aerial refueling introduce a discussion of current air refueling tactics followed by the author's views on how tanker assets should be developed to support a conventional war in Europe. Argued false expectations of current tanker capabilities based on successes of past air refueling operations along with a continuing dependence on emerging technological breakthrough resulted in the author questioning if production air refueling could be possible in a conventional war in Europe. The development of a tactical air refueling platform is suggested as a way to solve this potential problem.
