A Proposed Air Force Force Structure for Low Intensity Conflict

Abstract

The spectrum of Low Intensity Conflict (LIC) is very large. It includes everything from political unrest to conflict short of conventional warfare. The various complex potentials for LIC exist throughout the world. The capability to respond to the full spectrum of LIC requires highly specialized forces and a force structure that is significantly different from the structure that the Air Force has now. This paper will address the potential causes of LIC. Assess the regions of the world to see how those sources of conflict apply to the various regions. Discuss the various types of conflict and the response that we may have to employ. Finally the paper will propose a new force structure to fill a gap in our current capability to respond to higher levels of LIC.
