Methods and Measurements of Extinction Properties of Obscurants for Infrared to Millimeter Wave Region

Abstract

Extinction and transmission in the far infrared by carbon powder and a variety of metallic powders have been measured. A millimeter wave spectrometer for measuring transmission through aerosol clouds was constructed, incorporating a noise tube as a source. A Hecooled bolometer and a novel beam-splitter for Michelson interferometers of the millimeter and far infrared were developed. Keywords: Aerosol Optics.
