Intensive Archaeological Survey Two Rivers, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin

Abstract

An intensive archaeological survey was conducted at Two Rivers, in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. The project area lies adjacent to Lake Michigan, a short distance from the confluence of the Twin Rivers with the lake. A dredge disposal beach nourishment site is proposed within the city of Two Rivers. As a result, shovel tests and surface transects were conducted over the project area. No cultural materials were encountered and no cultural resource sites were reported. It is, therefore, recommended that then proposed Corps of Engineers' project be permitted to proceed. Keywords: Archaeology; Cultural resources; Wisconsin; Manitowoc county; Two rivers; Great lakes; Paleoindian; Early archaic; Middle archaic; Early woodland; Middle woodland; Euroamerican; Indian; History.
