A Satellite Simulation Program

Abstract

This report presents a satellite simulation written for the IBM PC and clones in Microsoft QuickBASIC 4.5. The program can either generate an ephemeris of satellite ground-track position and location with respect to a fixed ground station, or determine the position and time the satellite is above the horizon of a specified ground station. Provision is made for the program to handle multiple satellites and multiple ground stations. Input is either by way of the computer keyboard or by separate files for satellites and ground stations. Output is written both on the screen and to an ASCII output file which can be accessed by a data based management program. Keywords: Satellite; Satellite simulation; Satellite vulnerability; Satellite tracking; Satellite orbit; Satellite culmination; Ground track.
