Investigation of Metal Processing Technology

Abstract

This report summarizes the research conducted on metal processing over the 42-month period from October 1985 to April 1989. The research includes work on hot isothermal compression testing, lubrication data on ring compression tests, designing and building of high temperature environment chamber for the forge press, designing and building backup tooling for the extrusion press, programming a data acquisition and management system for the extrusion press and reaching the milestone of the facilities 10,000th extrusion. Information derived from this and previous research was applied to the processing of over 3000 billets, bars and melting of numerous alloys. Extrusion data for billets processed under this contract are shown in this report.
