Combat Vehicle Identification System (CVIS)

Abstract

This report describes the design, development, and field testing of an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system for the M1 Abrams main battle tank. The basic concept of this system involves utilizing the laser rangefinder (LRF) of the M1 as a means to interrogate potential targets, to cooperatively determine their identity through a computer controlled pulse code sequence.
