A Proposed Analytic Filter Model for Use in FAADS Force Mix Analysis at the U.S. Army Air Defense Center

Abstract

This thesis proposes an analytic filter model to support the Forward Area Air Defense System (FAADS) force mix analysis studies ongoing at the U.S. Army Air Defense Center. The FAADS Force Mix Analysis Model (FFMAM) focuses on the air defense versus combat aviation battle in the maneuver brigade's forward and rear areas. Particular attention is given to the representation of the FAADS attrition cycle as a Semi-Markov renewal process. Additional emphasis is placed on combat aviation tactics and the impact of terrain on system employment. Model output is presented to demonstrate FFMAM's reaction to selected input changes and to identify attrition related trends. Keywords: Optimal force structure.
