United States Air Force Summer Faculty Research Program. 1989 Program Management Report

Abstract

The United States Air Force Summer Faculty Research Program (USAF- SFRP) is designed to introduce university, college, and technical institute faculty members to Air Force research. This is accomplished by the faculty members being selected on a nationally advertised competitive basis for a ten- week assignment during the summer intersession period to perform research at Air Force laboratories/centers. Each assignment is in a subject area and at an Air Force facility mutually agreed upon by the faculty members and the Air Force. In addition to compensation, travel and cost of living allowances are also paid. The USAF-SFRP is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Air Force Systems Command, United States Air Force, and is conducted by Universal Energy Systems, Inc. The specific objectives of the 1989 USAF-SFRP are: (1) To provide a productive means for U.S. faculty members to participate in research at Air Force Laboratories/Centers; (2) To stimulate continuing professional association among the faculty and their professional peers in the Air Force; (3) To further the research objectives of the United States Air Force; and (4) To enhance the research productivity and capabilities of the faculty especially as these relate to Air Force technical interests. During the summer of 1989, 168- faculty members participated. These researchers were assigned to 23 USAF laboratories/centers across the country. This four volume document is a compilation of the final reports written by the assigned faculty members about their summer research efforts.
