Study of Bird Ingestions into Small Inlet Area, Aircraft Turbine Engines

Abstract

The FAA Technical Center initiated a study in May 1987 to determine the numbers, sizes, and types of birds which are being ingested into small inlet area turbofan and turbine engines and to determine what damage, if any, results. Bird ingestion data are being collected for the ALF502, TFE731, and TPE331 engines. This report analyzes the first of 2 years of data collection. (edc)
