A Fast PC-Based Solver for Simultaneous Linear Equations

Abstract

An indirect (pointer-based) datastructure for the storage of a symmetric, positive definite matrix of coefficients, and the corresponding right hand side vector is presented. This datastructure is useful in many kinds of engineering work, most notably finite element analysis. Procedures for accessing the datastructure are demonstrated via the small Turbo Pastcal program KxR. Matrix methods in general, and the finite element method (FEM) in particular, are now common engineering tools.
