Advanced Concepts Theory Annual Report 1989

Abstract

This report details the work of the Radiation Hydrodynamics Branch conducted in FY 89 with respect to several critical problems concerning the design of z-pinch implosions and the optimization of their radiative output. Separate sections describe progress in the analysis of z-pinch experiments, the development of atomic, electron, plasma and MHD dynamical models to describe z- pinch implosions, and the analysis of atomic number scaling of z-pinch K-shell emission. Keywords: Magnetohydrodynamics; Z-pinch physics; Atomic data scaling.
