Cyclopropanation of Poly(1-Methyl-1-Phenyl-1-Sila-Cis-Pent-3-Ene). Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(1-Methyl-3,4-Methylene-1-Phenyl-1-Sila-Cis-Pent-3-Ene)

Abstract

Poly(1-methyl-3,4-methylene-1-phenyl-1-sila-cis-pent-3-ene) (H(2)C-I) has been prepared by cyclopropanation of the C-C double bonds of poly(1-methyl- 1-phenyl-1-sila-cis-pent-3-ene) (I) by a Simmons-Smith reaction. Alternatively, H(2)C-I can be prepared by a Birch reduction of the dichlorocarbene adduct of I, poly (3,4-dichloromethylene-1-methyl-1-phenyl-1sila-cis-pent-3-ene) (C1(2)C-I). Both H(2)C-I and C1(2)C-I have been characterized by 1H, 13C and 29Si Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy as well as by elemental analysis. Their molecular weight distributions have been determined by (gel chromatographic analysis) and their thermal stabilities of (Thermogravimetric analysis). Cyclopropanation, Birch reaction, Simmons-smith reaction, Poly(1-methyl-1-phenyl-1-sila-cis-pent-3-ene), Chemical modification of polymers, Composite materials, Appendix I.
