Human Immune Response to Dengue Infections

Abstract

Stimulation with live dengue virus of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from a dengue 4-immune donor generated virus-specific serotype cross- reactive CD4- CD8+ class I-restricted cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) capable of lysing dengue virus-infected autologous fibroblasts and cells pulsed with dengue antigens of all 4 serotypes. These CTL lysed autologous fibroblasts infected with vaccinia-dengue recombinant viruses containing the E, or several non- structural dengue 4 genes. These results demonstrate that both dengue structural and non-structural proteins are targets for the HLA class I-restricted, CD4- CD8+ CTL.
