European Community, Post-1992

Abstract

This study discusses the possible nature of the European Community in the 1990's and early twenty-first century as a result of the EC-92 commitment. Beginning with a brief modern history of the European Community and the EC-92 commitment, the characteristics of the European Community are stated. Considering the influence of the events of 1989, the impact of the EC-92 commitment is assessed on the military, political, economic, and social elements of power. The study concludes that EC-92 will occur and may have significant impact on the future of NATO and the basis for military alliances. Economically, tremendous influence in a leadership role can be expected from the European Community in the world economic balance of power between North American nations led by the United States, and the Asian nations led by Japan. Politically and socially, the impact will be more internal than external to Europe, creating the potential for a political federation of European nations with social values becoming more interwoven. EC-92, European community.
