The Army Family Research Program: Second Meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee

Abstract

This report of the second meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) includes a summary of the committee's comments on the Army Family Research Program's (AFRP) revised Research Plan and individual reports from two members of the committee, Janice Madden and George Levinger. The SAC summary incorporates an overall critique of the Research Plan and specific comments on several major areas. The specific areas of concern to the SAC were the following: (1) setting priorities among research components, (2) testing the research model, (3) developing theory, testable interventions, and practical policy recommendations for readiness, retention, family adaptation, and spouse employment, and (4) balancing the demands for the quantitative and qualitative portions of the research.
