DURIP - Instrumentation for Laser Switched Power LINAC

Abstract

A 6cm radius, single stage, electron accelerator that uses a photoconductive switch to couple an electromagneticpulse into a radial transmission line is being developed. The switch consists of a ring GaAs which is closed with a ring of a laser light from a Phosphate glass regenerative amplifier. We are investigating the acceleration picosecond electron bunches in fields on the order of several MeV/m.
