The Hardware Interface for a DeeCO Touch Screen Terminal in a Technician Maintenance Application

Abstract

A technician's assister system has been developed using artificial intelligence techniques to develop the software. The environment for the proposed application is the cramped irregular spaces of a ship's sonar equipment room. A hardware interface for the software system was developed and demonstrated. The interface allows touch entry of all commands using a portable terminal that is attached to the host computer using RS-232 serial connections. The terminal is described, as is the hardware interface to the host computer. The results of the demonstration are presented. (kr)
