Evaluation of Plane-of-Light Noninterference Stress Measurement Systems for Measuring Bladed Disk Vibrations

Abstract

This report describes techniques for the measurement of traveling- mode vibrations of rotating bladed disks using a nonintrusive optical instrumentation system. This system incorporates a circumferentially-mounted plane-of-light sensor to detect time of arrival of blades on a rotating disk. These time of arrivals are compared to a 1-per-rev signal to determine the amount of relative displacements. This displacement is fed into a model- generating algorithm to determine frequencies of vibration; and mode shape. This system was compared to a separate noncontacting system to compare their measuring capability and accuracy.
