A Classification and Analysis of Contracting Literature

Abstract

This thesis was an attempt to classify and summarize literature in the acquisition and contracting field. The primary objective of this thesis was to develop a taxonomy for categorizing literature published in the contracting field. Other than simple author, title, or subject classification schemes, no such taxonomy previously existed. A secondary objective of this thesis was to evaluate the effectiveness of the taxonomy, to determine how well it met the requirements of the defined optimal classification scheme. Another objective of this thesis was to apply the taxonomy to a finite body of existing contracting literature. This exercise demonstrated that the taxonomy could be practically applied and the results demonstrated its usefulness. The final objective of this thesis was to evaluate the information provided from application of the taxonomy to contracting literature. Since the scope of literature to which the taxonomy was applied was limited, the results were necessarily qualified. However, at the least, this application provided areas for further research. Keywords: Contracting literature taxonomy, Taxonomy, Classification system for contracting literature.
