Partial Contents: Historical Setting; Geography and Population; The economy-- Growth and structure of the economy; The role of government; Banking and finance; The oil sector; Industrialization; Agriculture; Transportation; Foreign trade; Government and politics; National security -- The Iran-Iraq War; Armed forces and society; and Internal Security. Keywords: Ethnic minorities/religion; Area handbooks; Foreign government/policy; Foreign military forces. (edc)
