Chemical Kinetic and Aerodynamic Structures of Flames

Abstract

During the reporting period extensive experimental and numerical studies on the dynamics and kinetics of laminar premixed and diffusion flames have been conducted. Specific problems investigated include dilution and temperature effects in soot formation in diffusion flames, chemical and physical effects of additives in soot formation, experimental determination of laminar flame speeds of ethane, ethylene, acetylene, propane and hydrogen mixtures with air and the partial validation of the associated kinetic mechanisms, the theoretical prediction and experimental determination of the flammability limits of a variety of combustible mixtures, and the determination of the dynamic and chemical kinetic structures of diffusion flames near extinction.
