Electronic Instabilities of Two-Dimensional Metals K3Cu8S6 and Rb3Cu8S6

Abstract

The two-dimensional metals K3Cu8S6 and Rb3Cu8S6 show anomalies in their temperature dependent electrical conductivities which suggest charge- density waves. The band structure calculation of the mixed-valence CDW compound K3Cu8S6 shows that the Fermi surface of the compound is mainly composed of sulfur p electrons. The results of the calculations are supported by XPS studies.
