Building Blocks in Space

Abstract

This study examines the role of standardization and modularity in solving operational acquisition, and supportability concerns. The author evaluates the advantages, disadvantages, and difficulties of standardizing military space systems. He examines modular construction as a method of applying standardization to future spacecraft development. Col Marten's conclusions suggest new alternatives for space vehicle construction during the next decade. Keywords: Spacecraft components standardization, Space maintenance.
