Automated Excavation Study

Abstract

With the projection of an upcoming shortage of skilled labor, contractors must begin now to research and develop new and innovative methods of completing construction processes with the use of a smaller and possibly less skilled work force. One area of research which can help in meeting contractors future needs is construction automation. One construction process which lends itself to automation is the excavation process. With an automated excavator system, contractors will have the capability of performing site excavations without the need for highly skilled equipment operators. Keywords: Computer programs; User manuals; Programming manuals; Excavation; Computerized simulation.
