Optical Transmission Properties of Selected Shelter Materials
Abstract
Eight candidate tentage fabrics were evaluated for blackout (opacity to light transmission at night) in the laboratory and in the field with both incandescent and fluorescent lighting. A good correlation was obtained. Of the candidates examined, only the Hypalon-coated fabrics showed satisfactory blackout properties for visible and nonvisible wavelengths. The standard cotton duck (MIL-C-43627) was satisfactory only for visible radiation.
