Organization, Access, and Exploration Facilities for Large Geophysical Databases: DATSAV Surface Meteorological Data

Abstract

The overall objective of this project is to derive atmospheric aerosol climatology for the continental areas of the world. This is to be achieved by combining archived meteorological data observations, aerosol monitoring data, and general knowledge on the properties and behavior of aerosols. Exploration of meteorological data is a data intensive project. In this report database concepts and available data handling and manipulation techniques are described. Novel data handling and exploration facilities were applied to the meteorological data. Rationale and specific methods used analyzing European visibility data are presented. Keywords: Visibility database management.
