Construction Tool Management

Abstract

Contractors utilize tools and equipment daily on construction projects. Managing large pieces of equipment such as cranes and graders is essential to assure the successful completion of the project. Hand tools and minor equipment can play an equally important role during the project's construction phase. This paper examines the current procedures of hand tool and minor equipment management being implemented by contractors. Additionally, a guide for a tool management system will be developed for use by a large contractor with numerous projects across the United States. Techniques such as tool procurement, storage, issue, inventory, disposal, and distribution will be presented and analyzed.
