Maintenance Management System

Abstract

A need exists to develop a maintenance management system to manage the routine, day-to-day pavement maintenance work not included in the pavement items to be included, associated maintenance work activities and planning guidelines for each identified maintenance work activity. Over 60 planning guidelines were developed and are presented in the report. Each planning guideline includes the labor, equipment and materials resources and recommended work procedures to perform the work in an effective and economical manner. Daily work accomplished is measured in work units. The work activities and planning guidelines were used to develop a routine maintenance work program and budget for one of the six army installations visited. This demonstrated the potential for further development and implementation of maintenance management systems involves the development and implementation of the complete cycle of planning, organizing, directing and controlling at two pilot test installations. The maintenance management system for routine pavement maintenance would be interfaced with PAVER and the microcomputer Integrated Facilities System.
