Selection and Effects of Channels in Distributed Communication and Decision-Making Tasks

Abstract

This report describes the second year of a project that is researching the communication patterns of selected workgroups. Emphasis is on the definition and analysis of selection of channels (e.g., face-to-face meetings, phone, electronic mail, etc.) and the effects of those choices on the ensuing communication and task-oriented activities. Preliminary findings suggest implications for both the design of organizations and communication support system.
