Abstract

Maxwell Air Force Base is located in Montgomery County, Alabama. The study area for this project included the main base, comprised of 2,524 acres, and several off-base facilities which are under the jurisdiction of Maxwell AFB. Eleven sites were identified as containing potentially hazardous contaminants resulting from past activities. Conclusions have been developed based on the results of the project team's field inspection, review of base records and files and interviews with base personnel. The areas determined to have a sufficient potential to create environmental contamination are: Electroplating waste disposal site; Surface drainage system; Landfill nos. 4, 5, 6, 2 and 3; C. E. drum storage area; Fire protection training area nos. 2 and 1; Landfill nos. 5, 6, 2 and 3.
