The Ada Recompilation Containment Tool

Abstract

IDA Paper P-2099, The Ada Recompilation Containment Tool, documents the development of an Ada software prototype for the STARS Joint Program Office. It describes the Ada Recompilation Containment Tool (ARCT), a prototype based on the ideas presented in A New Reference Model for Change Propagation and Configuration Management in Software Systems by Joseph L. Linn et al. The article is reprinted in Appendix D. The primary requirement for the ARCT prototype was that it reduce compilation time. Although the tool was conceived to support Ada programming in-the-large, even very small projects can greatly benefit from the recompilation time savings.
