Simulating Local Area Network Protocols with the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS)

Abstract

Simulation models of ANSI802.3 (Ethernet) and ANSI802.5 (Token Ring) transmission control protocols have been constructed to assess the usefulness of the General Purpose Simulation System (GPSS) simulation language for modeling the performance of local area networks. The models are described in detail and the data obtained from them are compared with analytic results. Model verification and other problems associated with analysing simulation output are discussed. Keywords: Australia, Token ring protocols.
