Epidemiology and Epizootiological Investigations of Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses in Kenya

Abstract

The following has been achieved. A virus containment facility was established in the Virus Research Centre (VRC) permitting the safe handling of specimens suspected to contain hemorrhagic fever viruses. Incidence and prevalence rates of disease and antibodies to Marburg and Ebola viruses have been determined in an area in Kenya suspected to be a focus for these diseases. A surveillance system for viral hemorrhagic fever viruses based on selected hospitals in Western Kenya has been instituted. (js)
