Displaying Alphanumeric Characters on Pixel-Planes 5

Abstract

The Pixel-Planes 5 system (Fuchs89) is an implementation for a high- performance graphics architecture design primarily for high-speed rendering of 3 dimensional data from surface or volumetric databases. However, particular applications may require the additional display of alphanumeric text, either as superimposed (overlayed) alphanumeric text, or as true 3 dimensional text capable of interacting with other 3 dimensional elements (shading, hiding/ intersecting, etc.). Different approaches that have been proposed and partially implemented so far will be described and compared.
